Color Challenge Doll In Progress

So, I am a member of VictorianClothDolls, a yahoo group, and the latest challenge is to make a doll that in no way the color we see when we look into a mirror!  Lol…at first thought, that is a very easy challenge.  However, I figured to challenge myself further by doing something I had not yet done.  Never have I really painted a doll.  This doll has (5) layers of paint/gesso in an attempt to get her complexion “right”.  I am not sure if that has happened! This is not as easy as I initially thought….here are some of the in progress photos.

I have a face…

She is painted with gesso + brown+ yellow acrylic fabric paints and you cannot tell from here, but in person, she appeared a little yellow!  Not what I was after.

She was too yellow, so I added a blush mixture and now she is too PINK! ! !  YIKES! ! !

She sits on this chair and after another gesso, white+ brown+ water to make a wash, her skin tone is a bit different…

This trial and error was very interesting.  Now between each color layer, she was sanded with a brown paper bag and now her skin has a wonderful softness like that of a kid leather…

This is the end result and I am sticking with this!  Now, I am scared to paint her face on or her hair…more decisions … more to come.  I think I’ll work on her clothes and leave her face for last!  Would love to hear what you think!
